I really have a hard time thinking about which present to give my best friend. It’s quite ironic, really – how easy it is to find a present for a co-worker but difficult to choose one for one of the closest people in my life.
My best friend lives in another country which makes it even more difficult for me to think of presents for her. When she first moved away, I sent her books, makeup, clothes and other stuff for her birthday or special occasions such as Christmas. It was really hard for me to be away from her, especially when times get rough. She’s like my sister, adviser, confidant and critique all rolled into one beautiful person.
We are very fortunate to be living at a time where people living miles away are able to communicate so easily. Through social media and messaging devices, my best friend and I are able to talk to each other whenever, wherever we are on the planet. She has been living abroad for almost 7 years and I’m very proud to say that our friendship has been stronger than ever. However, there is also a downside to technology – the loss of personal touch.
I still remember the time when there was no internet. We had to write and send letters through regular mail, call someone to wish them a Happy Birthday and actually go to the library to do some research. Nowadays, it just takes one gadget to do all of those things in under 5 minutes. It’s as if technology has robbed us of the human experience of receiving a letter from a beloved friend who lives far away, hearing the gladness in the voice of a person as you greet them a happy birthday or the joy of finding an answer after searching for hours in the library.
Although technology has been really helpful in keeping us in touch over the years, I wanted to give my best friend something that reminds her of our friendship – something that’s personalized and will last for a long time. This is why I plan to buy a pair of friendship bracelets and send her one as a gift for her upcoming birthday this year.
You might be thinking that I either must be really cheap or got my head stuck in the 90s for wanting to give my best friend such an old fashioned gift. Certainly, I can afford to give her something much more valuable than a piece of leather or thread!
In this day and age of technology, a token that’s simple yet meaningful such as a friendship bracelet is like a breath of fresh air. It can be customized to fit the personality of the person you want to give it to. Or, you can use it to remember a special moment you both shared. This is what sets friendship bracelets apart from typical gifts! Every time your loved one wears or touches the bracelet, they’ll remember how far your friendship has come. It’ll surely bring a smile to their hearts even though they are miles away!
A friendship bracelet is a unique gift idea that reminds us of the beauty of friendship beyond time, distance and experiences.
